Starlink, a company owned by Elon Musk that provides internet services, has recently reduced the price of its hardware by 45% in Nigeria.
Gatekeepers News reports that the company has updated its prices, and its internet router which was previously sold for N800,000 is now available for N440,000.
However, the monthly subscription fee for the internet service remains the same at N38,000 per month.
Earlier, the same hardware was being sold for N378,000, until a price hike was implemented in March due to the declining value of the Nigerian naira.
The company has not disclosed any reasons for the recent price reduction, but it could be due to the recent appreciation of the naira against foreign currencies.
Starlink has also reduced its hardware prices in South Africa, although it is not licensed there. South Africans are using the service with a global or regional roaming subscription.
Starlink has confirmed its market presence in the country and advertised a 43% reduction in the hardware price from ZAR 12,000 to ZAR 6,800.
