Police Arraign 29 Yoruba Nation Agitators

Twenty-nine (29) individuals have been arraigned for invading the Oyo state government secretariat.

Gatekeepers News reports that the arraignment took place at the chief magistrate’s court in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

The incident took place on April 13 when 16 gunmen, suspected to be members of the Oodua Nation, invaded the state secretariat at Agodi, Ibadan.

The gunmen blocked the secretariat and were dressed in military camouflage. They were subsequently subdued by security personnel, and some of the gunmen were arrested, while others fled and were pursued into the surrounding bushes and forests.

The case, with charge number Mi/520c/2024, is between the commissioner of police in Oyo and the suspects.

The suspects are arraigned on a seven-count charge that includes charges of treasonable felony, unlawful society, illegal possession of firearms, going armed, and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.

Bakare Rasaq, an inspector with the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan, said the offences are punishable under “Section 516 of the criminal code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000”.
