The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps Brig Gen YD Ahmed, at the weekend, warned serving Corp members not to embark on illegal travels and assured them that permission would only be given to persons who need to travel.
Gatekeepers News reports that the warning against illegal travel according to Brig. Gen Ahmed became necessary following cases of corp members who lost their lives while engaging in illegal journeys.
The NYSC DG stated this while on a visit to the NYSC Orientation Camp in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, where he further assured the corp members of their welfare and safety while serving their fatherland.
According to DG, the welfare and safety of all corp members across the country will continue to be the priority of the NYSC and as such, illegal travel is highly prohibited.
He said “Please don’t embark on illegal journeys. We have lost so many corp members engaging in illegal journeys since I became the Director General of NYSC.”
He added “If anyone invites you out of your place of primary assignments, please tell the person you’re going nowhere, rather, the person should come to see you at your place,” Brig. Gen Ahmed said.
The NYSC DG however revealed that measures have been put in place for corp members willing to embark on legal travels but such can only happen after obtaining permission from the relevant authorities.
“If you must travel for obvious reasons, please apply and obtain permission from your place of primary assignment and from your NYSC officials,” The DG said.
Meanwhile, the NYSC DG ordered that a day be set aside for the corp members to celebrate with a gift of “3 fat cows “and envelopes containing an undisclosed amount of money were handed to some selected corp members.”
