Mavin Records Celebrates 12th Anniversary

Don Jazzy, the renowned Nigerian music producer, celebrated the 12th anniversary of Mavin Records, the record label he founded in 2012.

Gatekeepers News over the years, Mavin Records has been instrumental in launching the careers of several popular Afrobeats stars such as Ayra Starr, Johnny Drille, Crayon, Rema, and Ladipoe.

In a recent Instagram post, Don Jazzy uploaded a nostalgic video that documented the label’s journey from its humble beginnings to its current status as a leading record label in Nigeria.

The music producer expressed gratitude to all those who played a significant role in Mavin’s success.

“This dynasty started 12 years ago with a dream to take Afrobeats worldwide. 12 years of music, 12 years of impact, 12 years of influence, 12 years of greatness, 12 years of eminence, 12 years of significance, 12 years of creativity, 12 years of Mavin. Thank you for 12 years of support,” text woven throughout the video reads.

Mavin Records has won several awards, including the MTV Africa Music Award for Best Record Label in 2013 and 2014.

Gatekeepers News reported earlier this year that Universal Music Group acquired a majority stake in Mavin Records.

Universal, in a statement, hailed the record label as a “driving force behind many of the continent’s Afrobeats artistes”.

It said Don Jazzy and Tega Oghenejobo will continue to lead the company and maintain autonomy over its strategy and future talent development.
