Anambra State Government has refuted allegations by organized labour that it is implementing anti-worker policies.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union of Nigeria (TUC) issued a seven-day strike notice to Governor Chukwuma Soludo over the alleged non-implementation of the 2019 minimum wage policy and other grievances.
However, in a statement, Christian Aburime, the Governor’s Press Secretary, said the government is working to resolve all outstanding issues raised by the NLC.
He emphasized that the 2019 national minimum wage of N30,000 is already being paid by the government and that the governor is committed to improving worker welfare.
Governor Soludo urged the NLC and workers in the state to recognize the progress made by his administration in enhancing worker welfare and human capital development.
He described the proposed strike as “unnecessary and counterproductive,” suggesting that the NLC leadership may be influenced by external actors seeking to orchestrate an industrial crisis in the state.
The state government has expressed its willingness to engage in meaningful dialogue and collaboration with the NLC to address concerns amicably. “We assure the NLC and all Anambra State workers that their demands and issues are being diligently addressed,” the statement concluded.
“Governor Soludo urged the NLC and all workers in the state to recognise the substantial progress and numerous initiatives undertaken by his administration to enhance worker welfare and human capital development.
“The proposed strike is unnecessary and counterproductive at this juncture, as it might seem like the NLC leadership is being politically influenced by desperate external actors to orchestrate an artificial industrial crisis in Anambra State.
“We assure the NLC and all Anambra State workers that their demands and issues are being diligently addressed.”
