JUST IN: Reps Set To Revert To Old National Anthem

Members of the house of representative have passed a bill seeking for Nigeria to revert to the old national anthem.

Gatekeepers News reports that the old national anthem is titled “Nigeria, We Hail Thee”.

The house of representatives passed the bill for first, second and third readings during plenary on Thursday.

The old Nigeria National Anthem which is a sixteen-line anthem titled “Nigeria, We Hail Thee” was written by a female British immigrant who lived in Nigeria during its early days of Independence and composed by Frances Berda.

The anthem which was composed by Frances Berda was adopted in 1960 and was replaced by “Arise, O Compatriots” in 1978.
