Varsity Students Beat Colleague To Death

Male student of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo State has allegedly been beaten to death by a group of students inside a hostel known as Shepherd Inn on the school premises.

Gatekeepers News reports that the deceased whose identity is yet to be disclosed was reportedly beaten from 6 pm on Friday to about 10 am on Saturday for allegedly stealing a mobile phone.

According to a source; the assailants forcibly shaved the deceased hair after he was reportedly caught with the stolen mobile phone before beating him.

He said “They said they caught him with a stolen phone. They started beating him from 6 pm yesterday (Friday) until he died at about 10 am today (Saturday).”

“The incident happened at ‘Shepherd Inn’. It’s like a lodge or a hostel now. They also shaved the hair of the guy before beating him.”

In some videos posted online on Saturday night, the deceased was seen rolling on the hostel floor while other students were beating him with sticks.

One of the students could be heard encouraging the other student to hit the deceased harder.

The university management has confirmed the incident in a statement credited to the Police spokesman, Femi Atoyebi.

The school management said they’ve suspended the students suspected of involvement in the alleged crime and they’ve also been handed over to the police for prosecution.

Atoyebi added, “Contrary to what is trending, the university affirms that there is no cultism in the institution, just as the university has zero tolerance for any sort of anti-societal vices and misconduct.”

“It is important to stress that the expelled students do not belong to any cult group.”
