Binance Executive May Die In Kuje Correctional Facility – Counsel Tells Court

Legal representatives for Binance Holdings Limited, Aluko & Oyebode, have raised concerns about the health of  Tigran Gambaryan, a company executive currently on trial with the firm in Nigeria.

Gatekeepers News reports that in a letter to the Deputy Chief Registrar of the Federal High Court (FHC), penned by Partner C.J. Caleb, the concerns were detailed.

The letter, dated May 23, titled “Re: Charge No: FHC/ABJ/CR/128/2024 – Application for the Provision of Medical Treatment to Tigran Gambaryan at Nizamiye Hospital,” was seen on Sunday by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Gambaryan, the Head of Financial Crimes Compliance at the cryptocurrency platform, reportedly collapsed in prison on May 22 and received intravenous (IV) treatment for malaria by the healthcare staff.

Aluko & Oyebode continue to act as counsel to Tigran Gambaryan, the 2nd defendant in the pending lawsuit before the Honourable Justice E. Nwite at the Federal High Court, Abuja.

The lawyer raised concerns over Gambaryan’s continuous remand in the correctional facility and expressed fear for his life amidst his alleged deteriorating health.

The letter emphasized that Gambaryan, an American citizen, is very ill and requires comprehensive medical attention at the best available hospital within the jurisdiction of the court.

Also, the Consul Officer at the United States Consul Office in Abuja highlighted the need for the applicant to receive comprehensive treatment due to the severity of malaria for American citizens.

C.J. Caleb also mentioned that the defendant suffered from a throat infection and that the Kuje Medium Correctional Facility, where he is remanded, is currently undergoing renovation work and is not best suited for his medical treatment.
