Federal Government has invited organised Labour to continue minimum wage negotiations on Friday after Tuesday’s talk ended in deadlock.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Labour has agreed to attend, and if a better offer is presented, they will accept it.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) have given the committee an ultimatum to wrap up talks on a new national minimum wage by the end of May, which expires on Friday night.
“We have an ultimatum on May Day that if by May end, we don’t have a new minimum wage that will take a worker home, we will not be able to guarantee industrial peace. We are sticking to that ultimatum,” said Festus Osifo, President of the TUC.
The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, has appealed to Labour to be considerate and patriotic in their demands, recognizing the nation’s economy is still recovering from the pandemic and other economic distress.
“We appeal to organised labour and other relevant stakeholders to be considerate and patriotic in their demands, recognising that our economy is still recovering from the devastating effects of the pandemic and other global economic shocks,” she said.
