Ogun State Set To Join Ranks of Oil-Producing States As Exploration Begins

Ogun State Government has announced that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited is set to begin oil and gas exploration in the state.

Gatekeepers News reports that this development is expected to make Ogun’s quest to become an oil-producing state a reality soon.

According to Heineken Lokpobiri, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), “Ogun has always been part of the Dahomey Basin, with a high potential for hydrocarbon discoveries.”

He added that the Federal Government is committed to exploring the basin, which stretches across several states, including Ogun, Delta, Edo, and Ondo.

Mele Kyari, Group CEO of NNPC, expressed optimism that oil would be found in commercial quantities in the state, while Gbenga Komolafe, CEO of NUPRC, highlighted the commitment of the federal government to growing oil reserves and enhancing federation revenue.

Governor Dapo Abiodun welcomed the development, stating that Ogun State is part of the oil prospecting leases (OPLs) 302, 303, 306, and 307, and that numerous studies have shown the potential of the basins.

He emphasised the state’s potential for commercial success and economic benefits from exploration and production within a short timeframe.

The partnership between NNPC and Ogun State government is expected to unlock the hydrocarbon potential of the Dahomey Basin, contributing to the growth of Nigeria’s oil reserves and revenue.
