Governor of Oyo state, Southwest Nigeria, Seyi Makinde says by the grace of God, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will form the next government at the centre.
Gatekeepers News reports that Makinde spoke on Saturday in Umuahia, Abia state, at an event to honour Adolphus Wabara as the substantive chairman of the PDP board of trustees (BoT).
The event also coincided with Wabara’s 76th birthday.
The Oyo governor, who was the chairman of the occasion, commended the people for coming out to honour one of the great sons of the region.
Makinde encouraged the people of the region not to be discouraged no matter what they are going through.
He said the PDP is still the country’s most powerful and influential party.
“The south-east zone of this country is important to Nigeria. So, I want to encourage you, no matter what you are going through at this stage, please, don’t be discouraged,” he added.
Other dignitaries at the event were Peter Mbah, governor of Enugu state, Godwin Obaseki of Edo state, Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi state, Umar Damagun, PDP acting national chairman, and party leaders from other states in the south-east and across the country.
He described Wabara as “a donation from Abia state to Nigerians”.
“Senator Wabara has restored hope in the party’s board of trustees, hence, we now know that this party has a conscience,” Makinde said.
“I pray that in the next dispensation, this party will give birth to the government at the national level.”
Also speaking, Mbah described the celebrant as an icon of democracy, saying Wabara contributed greatly to the country’s development when he was the senate president and in other positions, especially as secretary of the party’s BoT before becoming the chairman of the board.
On his part, Damagum said the PDP is prepared to reclaim all the states in the south-east.
Damagun advised the people of the zone not to relent and urged party leaders and members to unite and continue to work together.
