The family of Senator Abu Ibrahim, a former lawmaker who represented Katsina South Senatorial district, has debunked the rumour making the rounds that the elder statesman has passed away.
Gatekeepers News reports that In a statement signed and issued by his son, Muhammad Abu Ibrahim, ES/CEO, National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF), on behalf of the family, he said the rumour was untrue as his father is alive and in good health.
“Our attention has been drawn to rumours of the death of our dear father and elder statesman, Senator Abu Ibrahim, which began mid-afternoon on Saturday, the 1st of June 2024.
“The family wishes to state that the information is untrue; Senator Abu Ibrahim is alive and in good health.
“To this end, we sincerely appreciate the concerns and prayers of many, including friends, associates, and well-wishers who have reached out to confirm.
“May Almighty Allah continue to ease our affairs and grant us all mercy when our end has come,” the statement read.
Ibrahim was elected Senator for the Katsina South (Funtua) Senatorial district in April 2003 on the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) platform. In August 2006, he was expelled from the ANPP, as was former President Muhammadu Buhari, also from Katsina. Both were accused of anti-party activities and disregard for the party constitution.
Ibrahim was involved in merger negotiations between CPC and Action Congress (AC) and was an intermediary between Bola Tinubu of AC and Buhari of CPC. The negotiations fell through at the time, only to re-emerge prior to the 2015 elections.
