Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar 11 has directed Muslim faithfuls to look out for the crescent of Dhul-Hijjah 1445 AH from Thursday, June 6, 2024.
Gatekeepers News reports that the chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs of the Sultanate Council, Prof. Sambo Janaidu announced this through a statement released on Wednesday.
The statement goes “This is to inform the Muslim Ummah that Thursday, June 6, which is equivalent to the 29th day of Dhul-Qidah 1445 AH, shall be the day to look for the new moon of Dhul-Hijjah 1445 AH.”
“Muslims are, therefore, requested to start looking for the new moon of Dhul-Hijjah on Thursday and report its sighting to the nearest district or village head for onward communication to the Sultan.”
The Sultan further prayed to Allah to continue to make it easy for Muslims to discharge their religious duties.
Muslims faithfuls look out for the moon to determine the commencement of one of the four sacred months, Dhul Hijah which is the last Islamic month.
The moon sighting marks the beginning of the Hajj pilgrimage and Eid-ul-Adha which is done from the 10th to the 13th day of the month.
