Security operatives have rescued at least 10 Nigerian teenage girls, ages between 15 and 16, from human trafficking and prostitution in Ghana.
Gatekeepers News reports that a man allegedly lured the girls to Ghana with promises of a better life but he instead forced them into prostitution.
The suspect who is a Nigerian man has been arrested and is currently in police custody.
The Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa confirmed the development through a video posted on her official X account.
She said the girls were rescued after a tip-off by NIDO, the umbrella body of Nigerians living in Ghana.
Dabira-Erewa said “These are young girls trafficked to Ghana for prostitution. We thank Chief Callistus, Chairman, Nido Ghana for ensuring the arrest of the evil perpetrator. I am sure @naptipnigeria will follow up. Very, very heartbreaking.”
According to the victims, they were beaten, molested, and forced into prostitution without pay.
Their phones were also seized, and they were unable to contact their parents.
One of the girls responding to questions, said, “They give us out to men, and they don’t give us money; they collect everything.”
The Chairman of NIDO, Callistus Elozieuwa, appealed for support to ensure the girls’ safe return to Nigeria.
