Passport Fraud: Immigration Officer Gets 7-Year Jail Term

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has announced that it has secured a seven-year conviction for a staff member of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Quadri Adeyinka over travelling passport fraud.

Gatekeepers News reports that the  spokesman for ICPC, Demola Bakare made the announcement through a statement released on Monday.

The convict was arraigned before a high court judge, Onwuegbuzie in Abuja, on a four-count charge bordering on gratification, conferment of corrupt advantage, and cheating.

The spokesman stated that the offence contravened the provisions of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act of 2000 and the Penal Code Act.

He added that the ICPC’s prosecuting officer, Osuobeni Akponimisingha brought evidence on how Adeyinka defrauded Ovie Ojeffia under the pretence of regularising his international passport before the court.

Bakare revealed that the suspect received the sum of ₦100,000 from Ojeffia to regularise her passport but failed to do so.

He added that the victim then petitioned the ICPC, which led to the investigation and arraignment of the convict before the court.

The judge found Adeyinka guilty on all four counts and sentenced him to seven years imprisonment each for counts 1 and 2.

Onwuegbuzie also sentenced him to five years imprisonment for count 4 and two years imprisonment for count 3.
