Ghana will experience a 21-day power outage due to a gas supply shortage from Nigeria.
Gatekeepers News reports that the State-owned electricity companies, GRIDCO and ECG, announced the interruption in power supply on June 13, attributing it to reduced gas supply from Nigeria.
The shortage is expected to last for three weeks.
According to GRIDCO and ECG, the reduction in gas supply has already caused power interruptions in some areas of the country since Wednesday, June 12, 2024.
The West Africa Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCO) explained that the reduction is due to maintenance works being undertaken by a gas supplier in Nigeria, projected to last three weeks.
While the maintenance has reduced Ghana’s overall power generation capacity, potentially requiring load management, GRIDCO and ECG are working with other stakeholders to optimize available resources and minimize the impact on consumers.
The companies apologised for the inconvenience caused by the power outage.
