Abia State Ministry of Health has announced that there are no cases of cholera in the state, despite the recent nationwide outbreak.
Gatekeepers News reports that 109 suspected cases were reported in six local government areas, but all tested negative for cholera, according to a report covering January to June 2024,
The state epidemiologist and Director of Public Health and Disease Control explained that while two samples initially tested positive, they were later confirmed negative at the National Reference Laboratory in Abuja.
The ministry has urged residents to remain vigilant and take preventive measures, such as avoiding roadside foods, maintaining personal hygiene, and drinking treated water. With proactive measures in place, Abia State remains cholera-free.
