Nnamdi Kanu Seeks Negotiation With FG

Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has indicated his willingness to negotiate with the Federal Government regarding his ongoing trial.

Gatekeepers News reports that Kanu, through his lead counsel, Alloy Ejimakor, informed the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday that he would seek negotiation under Section 17 of the Federal High Court Act, which promotes reconciliation and amicable settlement.

Ejimakor had earlier filed two applications, including one objecting to the court’s jurisdiction. If denied, Kanu’s legal team plans to invoke Section 17.

However, the government’s counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo, clarified that only the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagnei (SAN), has the authority to negotiate on behalf of the government.

The presiding judge, Justice Binta Nyako, emphasised the court’s role is to hear cases, not facilitate negotiations.

Kanu has been in DSS custody since June 2021, facing terrorism-related charges.
