Makinde’s Wife Empowers Over 300 Widows

Oyo state Governor, Seyi Makinde’s wife, Tamunominini Makinde has on Friday donated cash gifts and food items to over 300 widows across the state.

Gatekeepers News reports that she said the items would help reduce the effects of the current economic hardship experienced by the widows and put food on their tables.

In addition, the widows were enlightened on how to be self-reliant, financially independent, personal hygiene, and take care of themselves and their children.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion in the state, Toyin Balogun while speaking at an event to mark the 2024 International Widow Day in Ibadam, on behalf of the state’s first lady, noted that one of the major concerns of the government is the sustainability of all citizen, with the widows, children, the elderly and vulnerable in the society inclusive.

Toyin emphasized that Governor Seyi Makinde showed more concern for all citizens especially the widows so they can be empowered to take care of themselves, their children, and their basic needs, and the society at large can be better.

She added that the event was symbolic which will be done in all the thirty-three local governments across the state and all widows will be taken care of.

Toyin said, “Widowhood is a challenge, it is not an ailment nor disease, and they are challenged at this stage to bring their best, creativities and resilience.”

“It is this time of trouble their greatness comes out, it is an opportunity for them to demonstrate their creativity and resilience and look at all available opportunities.”

“They can be self-reliant, take care of themselves and their children, and be useful in society.”

Present at the event was the Head of Service in the state, Olubunmi Oni, Commissioner for Health, Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs, Dolapo Popoola, and the Director of Women Programme, Ogunjimi Diya among others.
