Recruitment Row: PSC Demands Tinubu’s Intervention Over Police ‘Abuse Of Power’

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu
Police Service Commission (PSC) has accused the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) of abusing its powers and violating ethical standards in the recruitment of police constables.

Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement, PSC spokesman Ikechukwu Ani highlighted the NPF’s disregard for a Supreme Court ruling, attempts to undermine the commission’s mandate, and violations of public service rules.

The PSC called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene and ensure the NPF respects its legal boundaries.

The commission expressed concerns over the release of a confidential letter from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to the media and the obstruction of its constitutional duty to oversee police recruitment since 2019.

The PSC demanded verifiable evidence to support allegations against it and a forensic audit of the successful candidates’ list.

The commission reiterated the Supreme Court’s ruling affirming its exclusive authority in recruiting constables and urged the President to ensure the police respect its mandate, allowing successful candidates to proceed with their training without delay.
