Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has expressed opposition to a bill seeking to establish a national agency for regulating and managing ranches in Nigeria.

Gatekeepers News reports that instead, the association advocates for the creation of a Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries Development to address the entire livestock value chain holistically.

MACBAN’s national president, Alhaji Baba Usman Ngelzarma, emphasized that a dedicated ministry would effectively tackle issues like production, processing, marketing, transportation, and security.

He urged President Bola Tinubu to implement the recommendations of the Livestock Reforms and Mitigation Committee, led by Professor Attahiru Jega, to resolve the farmers-herders conflict.

Meanwhile, a bill to ban open grazing and establish ranches has passed its second reading in the Senate, sparking debate on the issue.
