Stop Politicising Traditional And Religious Institutions - Muslim Group Warns Northern Leaders
Against the backdrop of what happened in Kano State where Governor of Kano Abba Kabiru Yusuf removed the Emir of Kano Alh. Ado Bayero and replaced him with the deposed 14th Emir – Lamido Muhammad Sanusi, the Muslim Media Watch Group has warned the Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu not to attempt the same on the Sarkin Muslumi & Sultan of Sokoto Sultan (Dr.) Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR

Gatekeepers News reports that the group, in a statement released on Tuesday, emphasised the need to preserve the sanctity of Royal, Traditional, and Religious Institutions, denouncing the trend of politicians interfering with these revered institutions.

The group also urged Traditional and Religious Leaders to avoid engaging in political partisanship and parochialism.

The Muslim Media Watch Group stressed the historical importance and elevated status of Muslim Royal Institutions in Northern Nigeria, asserting that these institutions hold greater significance than political office-holders in the eyes of both people and the divine.

The Press Statement signed by the National Coordinator of the Group Alh. Ibrahim Abdullahi stated that: “the towering position of the Sultan of Sokoto and Leader of entire Nigerian Muslims is far greater than that of any Traditional Ruler or that of any Religious Leader in Nigeria; and therefore admonished Political Leaders all over the Country to learn a serious lesson from the unwarranted removal of Emir of Kano by Kano State Government, which he said has turned out to be problematic for the State Government following the court ruling over the unfortunate action.

“The Group said it is sacrilegious to note that deposition of Emirs and appointment of new ones based of political consideration is a negation of Islamic principles of ‘ Allah is the overall Possessor of absolute power who gives it to whoever He wishes; calling on all Political Leaders in both North and South of Nigeria to stop politicisation of Royal Stools so as not to relegate the most dignifying positions to nothingness.

“The Media Group appealed to all Muslims all over the Country not to entertain any fears about the magnificent position of the Sultan of Sokoto & President-General of Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) presently held by Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR.

“The Group described the present Sultan as the best ever enthroned because of his leadership qualities, generousity, commitment and great foresight for Islamic development in Africa in particular the World at large.

“MMWG implored the Former Governor of Sokoto State and current Political Leader of APC in Sokoto State Senator Magatakada Wammako not to tow the route of Former Kano State Governor – Senator Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso who is now in dilemma of what to do over the ‘fire he ignited in Kano’ that refused to burn due to Allah’s abundant mercy.”

The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria (MMWG) – is a Body of Muslim Journalists and other Professionals would believe in the power of Media to correct bad practices, encourage values and ideals for the betterment of the Nigerian Society.
