CAS Clears Tobi Amusan Of Anti-Doping Violation

Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) has upheld the clearance of Nigerian hurdler Tobi Amusan from an anti-doping rule violation, dismissing the appeal filed by Athletics Integrity Unity (AIU).

Gatekeepers News reports that in a statement on Friday, CAS announced that Amusan did not commit an anti-doping rule violation, confirming the decision of the World Athletics Disciplinary Tribunal.

Amusan was initially handed a provisional suspension in July 2023 for allegedly missing three tests in 12 months, but a disciplinary tribunal ruled that she had not committed a violation. AIU appealed the decision to CAS, which has now ruled in Amusan’s favor.

“The CAS Panel unanimously acknowledged that the athlete committed two filing failures but did not confirm the existence of a missed test… which would have been the third Whereabouts Failure committed within a 12-month period,” the CAS statement reads.

“Accordingly, the CAS Panel concluded that the athlete did not commit an ADRV and that the Challenged Decision should be confirmed.”

With this decision, Amusan is cleared to compete and is expected to represent Nigeria at the Paris Olympics next month.
