Lagos Set To Install Cameras On BRT Buses

Lagos State Government has announced that it will soon install cameras on public buses run by the state.

Gatekeepers News reports that this was revealed on Sunday at a conference hosted by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA).

The conference was done to solicit comments and cooperate with drivers, operators, and other stakeholders to improve BRT and other bus services.

A statement released by LAMATA on Sunday revealed that the Head of Bus Services, Dr Olukemi Amure headed the conversation and reviewed previous meeting decisions to determine progress on past issues.

Before this, Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu had revealed in 2022 that buses imported from abroad for BRT system were equipped with surveillance cameras.

However, the Governor added that those sourced local to enhance transportation operations in the state did not surveillance camera.

The statement noted that “Dr. Amure also shared exciting news about the Lagos State Government’s plan to re-install cameras in all authorised public transportation vehicles progressively.”

Another speaker at rge conference, Muiz Ogbara addressed sexual harassment concerns about the “SheCan” reporting mechanism, urging drivers to be aware of the problem.

Also at the meeting, head of the Lagos State Task Force, CSP Adetayo Akerele told the drivers that the enforcement team was committed to keeping the BRT routes in order.

The CSP emphasized the importance of driver collaboration and proper conduct.

He said, “This inclusive approach of engaging BRT drivers with various stakeholders reflects LAMATA’s continuous effort to improve service delivery through its staff.”

The statement added, “Dr. Amure concluded the meeting by guaranteeing that drivers’ concerns would be addressed. She also encouraged them to register with LAMATA’s database to facilitate better monitoring and evaluation.”
