Bauchi Records 50 Suspected Cases Of Cholera- One Death

Executive secretary of Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Board, Rilwan Mohammed has revealed that fifty (50) suspected cases of cholera have been recorded in the state.

Gatekeepers News reports that Mohammed made the revelation on Monday during the opening of 2024 Maternal, newborn, and Child Health (MNCH) Week held in Bauchi.

Recall that Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) had recently announced an outbreak of cholera across thirty states in the nation.

Listing the LGAs as Bangali, Giade, and Toro, the secretary noted that the state also recorded one suspected cholera death.

He said, “We don’t have any confirmed cases of cholera in Bauchi state, but we have 50 suspected cases and one suspected death:”

“People should adhere to protocols of sanitation and hygiene, and report symptoms to the nearest health facility.”

“There will be outreach services in schools and communities, targeting 2.2 million children under five years old.”

“The MNCH Week will run from today, July 1, till Friday, July 5.”

Mohammed added that the board would ensure adequate provision of supplements, antenatal, and nutrition counseling, and screening services to residents of the state.

He continued, “Today, we are commencing one of the vital events that impacts the health and well-being of our mothers, newborns, and children.”

“Many newborns do not survive their first few days of life due to a lack of access to basic healthcare services, while many children suffer from malnutrition and preventable diseases that rob them of their potential.”
