Senate has on Thursday, passed for third reading, a bill seeking establishment of the North Central Development Commission.
Gatekeepers News reports that the bill was proposed by senator representing Benue South Senatorial District and Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, and other senators from North Central region.
The bill had before, passed its first and second readings on October 5, 2023, and February 21, 2024, respectively.
Moro first proposed the bill in 9th Senate where it passed first and second readings but could not get presidential assent before expiration of 9th Senate.
Passage of the bill comes after the adoption of report of Senate Committee on Special Duties submitted during plenary.
Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, who presided over plenary congratulated Moro and all those who contributed to the success of the bill.
He expressed optimism that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would assent to the bill for overall development of North Central Nigeria, which comprises Kogi, Niger, Benue, Kwara, Plateau, Nasarawa and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
