University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) has described as misleading and erroneous the statement made by Dr. Olusola Peter Okunola, a Consultant Paediatric Neurologist at UBTH.
Gatekeepers News reports that the denial was made in a statement by the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee
University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Prof. Stanley Okugbo.
The statement read, “The attention of the management of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) has been drawn to a video circulating on various social media platforms featuring misleading, inaccurate, and erroneous statements expressed by Dr. Olusola Peter Okunola, a Consultant Paediatric Neurologist at UBTH.
“UBTH as an institution renowned for excellence in medical care and research, is deeply concerned by the misleading statements expressed in the video.
“It is imperative to unequivocally state the following:
1. Dr. Peter Okunola does not possess the authority to represent the hospital on matters concerning the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine and its administration.
2. The views expressed by Dr. Okunola in the video are strictly his personal opinions and do not, in any capacity, reflect the official position of UBTH.
3. UBTH as a dedicated centre for administering the HPV vaccine, is committed to safeguarding public health through evidence-based medical practices.
“We urge members of the public to disregard the views Dr. Okunola presented in the video. The HPV vaccine is a crucial preventive measure against HPV-related diseases, especially cervical cancer.
“We strongly encourage parents to ensure their daughters within the recommended age bracket receive this vaccine.
“For accurate information and guidance on the HPV vaccine, please rely on official communications from UBTH and other reputable health authorities.”
