Afemnai coalition for Asue Ighodalo has commiserated with families and victims of the tragic incident which occurred in Jattu market on Monday, July 8, 2024.

Gatekeepers News reports that the coalition which is a support group for the actualisation of the governorship aspiration of Dr Asue Ighodalo, in a statement released on Monday and signed by Prince Chalaman MKO Momoh, the coalition expressed profound sadness over the tragic incident occasioning loss of innocent lives.

The incident, which occurred amid a severe rainstorm, resulted in the death of several individuals and left many others injured. Preliminary reports indicate that the heavy downpour forced market-goers to seek refuge in the market’s covered stalls. As the storm intensified, the rain caused flooding that weakened the roots of several large trees. The weakened trees subsequently collapsed, crashing onto the stalls where people had taken shelter. The result was a devastating scene of destruction and chaos.

The coalition expressed their sadness over this tragic incident which led to loss of lives, properties, and injuries sustained by numerous individuals.

“What is most painful and depressing in all of this is that these innocent persons were going about their normal businesses to eke out a living for themselves and members of their families.”

“Our heartfelt condolences goes to the families of those who lost their lives in this incident and we pray for quick recovery of those who have suffered injuries.”

“We equally condole with the Edo State government, government and people of Etsako West LGA, the Ogieneni of Uzairue and all market-goers from within and outside Edo North.”
