A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered that former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman be remanded in Kuje prison in Abuja pending consideration of his bail application.
Gatekeepers News reports that the presiding judge, Justice James Omotosho issued the order on Thursday, July 11.
The order comes after the former minister of power was arraigned on a 12-count charge bordering on money laundering offences.
Mamman, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge brought against him by Economic And Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).
EFCC’s prosecuting lawyer, Olumide Fusika (SAN) then sought a date for commencement of trial.
The defendant’s counsel, Femi Ate (SAN) noted he filed a bail application shortly before the court resumed sitting, but Justice Omotosho noted that the application was not yet in the court’s file, even though the prosecuting lawyer received it around 12:30 pm.
Ate then prayed to the court, to be allowed to return the next day to argue the bail application.
Thereafter, the judge ordered that Mamman be remanded in Kuje correctional centre, till a hearing of the bail application which will be held July 12.
