Police Ban Shi’ite Procession In Abuja

Police Command in Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has banned procession of proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria aka Shi’ite, to commemorate 2024 Islamic calendar day of Ashura in the state.

Gatekeepers News reports that Police Public Relations Officer in FCT, SP Josephine Adeh announced the ban through a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja.

According to the police, intelligence had it that members of the proscribed organisation were planning a procession to mark the 2024 Islamic calendar day of Ashura.

The force said antecedents have shown that such activities, carried out by members of IMN often result in significant disturbances, leading to anarchy and chaos within the territory.

It further warned any individual or member of proscribed organisation to refrain from or shun any intended form of protest or procession in the state.

The force further warned that the command would not hesitate to use every legal means necessary to halt or incapacitate anyone who dares violate the ban.

The statement added that the command was committed to maintaining law and order and would take all necessary measures to prevent any activities that threaten the safety and well-being of the populace.
