Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has pledged to allocate N5 billion for the construction of a permanent orientation camp for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the state.

Gatekeepers News reports that the Governor while peaking to Batch B Stream 1 corps members at the current orientation camp in Iyana Ipaja, announced that the state would set aside N5 billion to commence development of the permanent site.

Sanwo-Olu also surprised the corps members with a gift of N100,000 each, promising that the funds would be credited to their accounts.

“It will be made available in your account. Your directors will credit you. Don’t worry. This is how we do in Lagos,” he said.

Also, the Governor promised automatic employment into the civil service for 100 outstanding corps members in the batch after their service year. He encouraged the corps members to embrace discipline, perseverance, and teamwork during the three-week orientation course.

Sanwo-Olu stated, “Because we are a performance-driven government and we’re sensitive to what is expected of every one of you, I will be monitoring this particular batch. This particular batch is now my home…At the end of your time, I will pick the best 100 corps members out of this batch. They will get automatic employment in the neighbourhood state public service.”
