In a historic moment for Nigerian athletics, world record holder Tobi Amusan has been named the country’s flagbearer for the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Gatekeepers News reports that his marks the first time in two decades that a track and field athlete has received this honor, since Mary Onyali at the Athens 2004 Games.
As Amusan leads the Nigerian contingent during the parade of nations, she solidifies her status as one of Nigeria’s most prominent athletes on the global stage. Her outstanding performances in the 100m hurdles have earned her this recognition, and she is set to make her country proud.
In addition to Amusan’s appointment, the Nigerian Olympic Committee has also announced Badminton player Anuoluwapo Opeyori as the General Team captain for Nigeria in Paris.
