Rivers High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has barred members of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from gathering anywhere in the State to hold their scheduled Ward Congresses.
Gatekeepers News reports that Rivers PDP had initially scheduled July 27, August 10, and August 31, 2024 for Ward, Local Government, and State Congresses.
It also barred PDP National Chairman, Amb. Iliya Damagum; and the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu; or their agents from gathering anywhere in Rivers State to hold Ward, Local Government Area, and State congresses pending the hearing and judgement of the suit before it.
The presiding judge, Justice Charles N. gave the orders while delivering his ruling in a suit filed by PDP members from across the wards in the twenty-three (23) LGA of the State.
He also ordered the IGP; Commissioner of Police, Rivers State; Director-General, Department Security Service (DSS); and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC); to ensure the order is adhered to.
The judge then adjourned the case to 1st of August, 2024 for a hearing of substantive suit.
