The North East Development Commission (NEDC) on Thursday put smiles on the faces of 188 People Living With Disabilities (PLWD) with the distribution of N 94 million prostheses, crutches and wheelchairs to aid their mobility in Borno
Gatekeepers News reports that the NEDC also doled out the sum of N50,000. each to 188 as cash support to PLWD to cushion the biting effect of the hardship being experienced around the country.
The Managing Director of NEDC, Mohammed Alkali led other top members of the Commission to Forshams Hall in Maiduguri, the state capital where the assistive devices were handed over to beneficiaries drawn from Council Areas.
According to Alkali who flagged off Phase 1 of the program, the assistive devices will assist PLWD access service delivery in the education, infrastructure facilities and health sectors.
“The procured, prostheses, crutches wheelchairs will assist and facilitate their mobility to public places, including markets, schools, farms and hospitals in the state,” Alkali said, adding that “the devices were procured at the sum of N94 million.”
The 188 assistive devices distributed include 100 prostheses, 30, wheelchairs, 30 Cutches and 28 walking armpits.
The NEDC boss therefore revealed other states in the North East such as Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe states would be part of the next phase.
