Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has expressed frustration with the Police Command in the state, accusing them of disobeying his orders as the Chief Security Officer.
Gatekeepers News reports that he stated that all other security operatives cooperate with him, except the police.
“Any time I give orders to the police, they refuse to take them, and would say they take orders from above. Imagine as the Executive Governor and Chief Security Officer of this state, I cannot give orders to the police. This is frustrating and unfortunate,” Yusuf said during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Africa House, Government House, Kano.
The Governor also revealed that some opposition politicians plan to hijack the upcoming nationwide protests to cause chaos in the state.
“We have intelligence information that some disgruntled politicians from the opposition are plotting to hijack the impending nationwide protests in order to cause mayhem in Kano,” he said.
Yusuf urged protesters to conduct themselves peacefully and responsibly, offering to receive them at the Government House and collect their grievances for transmission to the Federal Government.
“I will not run away. I will wait and receive them at the Government House to collect their demands and deliver same to the Federal Government, so long as they conduct themselves peacefully.”
The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sunusi II, cautioned youths to be wary of the protests, which could be hijacked by hoodlums, resulting in loss of lives and property.
He supported the Governor’s decision to receive the protesters and channel their demands to the appropriate authorities.
