In a display of solidarity, Nigerians have come together to raise N1.8 million for a protester’s son who dreams of becoming a programmer.

Gatekeepers News reports that Ogwu Chijioke, a passionate protester, was interviewed by Channels Television at the Lekki Toll Gate area of Lagos during the nationwide #EndBadGovernance demonstrations.

He shared his struggles in supporting his 13-year-old son’s programming aspirations, citing financial difficulties in affording data and tuition fees.

“My name is Ogwu Benjamin Chijioke. I would rather die on the streets than die at home. I can’t sit down and watch the future of my son go to waste. I know I may not have a future again in Nigeria but my son’s future will not be wasted.”

Chijioke’s video quickly went viral on social media, captivating the hearts of many.

Social media influencer Morris Monye shared the video, highlighting Chijioke’s selfless dedication to his son’s future.

“You can feel the passion in his soul,” Monye captioned the video shared on his X handle, adding that “he’s lost hope that life will be good for him but has not lost hope for his son. This is why he is protesting.”

Monye later announced that he had obtained Chijioke’s details and set a crowdfunding goal of N1.8 million to support the son’s programming dreams.

“Hello, guys. I’ve gotten his details,” Morris wrote. “N1.8m is needed to make his dreams come true.”

In a remarkable show of generosity, the crowdfunding goal was met within 24 hours, ensuring that Chijioke’s son could pursue his passion for programming.
