Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammad Sanusi II, has expressed strong condemnation of the violent hunger protest that rocked Kano State, resulting in loss of lives and destruction of property worth billions of naira.
Gatekeepers News reports that the Emir described the incident as “saddening and pathetic” and a significant setback for the state’s socio-economic development.
Addressing a press conference at his palace, Sanusi regretted that the protest was hijacked by miscreants and agents of destruction, leading to chaos and destruction of property belonging to the people of Kano.
He noted that the funds required to repair the damaged property could have been invested in poverty alleviation, education, and nutrition.
The Emir also lamented the destruction of the Digital Centre of Excellence, built by the Nigerian Communications Commission, which was meant to provide digital training and education to youths.
He called on the people of Kano to refrain from further violence and urged parents, ward heads, Imams, and District heads to sensitize and educate their communities on the negative consequences of such actions.
Sanusi emphasised the need for collective responsibility to prevent similar incidents in the future and promote development in Kano.
