Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has categorically denied reports of approving a tariff increase for telecom and internet companies.
Gatekeepers News reports that contrary to claims circulating in the media, the NCC asserts that it has neither approved new telecom tariff plans nor a tariff hike.
The rumors stemmed from a purported document titled “Guidance on the Simplification of Tariffs in the Nigerian Communications Sector,” allegedly signed by NCC Executive Chairman Aminu Maida.
The document supposedly outlined new tariffs to take effect on July 29, 2024. However, the NCC has discredited the document as fake.
The Commission emphasised that its directive to operators was to simplify their current tariff plans in a transparent and fair manner for consumers, not to introduce new prices.
The NCC urges the public to disregard the false reports and rely on official communications from the Commission for accurate information.
“The NCC has neither approved any new Telecom Tariff Plans nor hike as reported on online. The public is advised to please disregard.
“NCC issued a directive for all operators to simplify their current tariff plans in a transparent & fair manner for consumers,” it wrote on X platform.
