Commissioner of Police, Yobe Police Command Damaturu, CP Garba Ahmed has urged protesting youths of #EndBadGovernance to engage in dialogue with authorities as the protests turned violent.
Gatekeepers News reports that Ahmed said this through a statement released by Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), DSP Dungus Abdul Karim.
The statement with reference no. CZ: 5300/ YBS/SHQ/PPRO/VOL.2/1 was released on Saturday, third day of the nationwide protest.
The PRO reaffirmed the commitment of security agencies to protect lives, public infrastructure, and private businesses and restore peace and order.
He said, “During the three-day protest, the command recorded significant damage to public infrastructure, private businesses, and unrest, leading to injuries, losses, and casualties that could not be alleviated quickly.”
“However, timely security measures have mitigated the effects of criminal activities in the state, particularly in Potiskum, Nguru, and Gashua LGAs.”
“The command has apprehended 108 suspects for various crimes, including those who defied the imposed curfew in the affected areas. Efforts are ongoing to recover stolen properties, with discreet investigations underway”.
Ahmed further urged the public to report miscreants with stolen properties and warned criminal elements that they would be held accountable under the law.
