President Bola Tinubu has praised Rena Wakama, head coach of D’Tigress, for her outstanding performance at the Paris Olympics, where she led the team to the quarter-finals for the first time in history.
Gatekeepers News reports that Wakama was recognized as the best manager of the Olympic women’s basketball event by FIBA and Olympic organizers.
Tinubu said in a statement: “Wakama’s recognition by FIBA further accents her well-established leadership qualities and dedication to excellence.”
He urged D’Tigress to “not relent or become crestfallen but remain resilient and determined for greatness.”
Tinubu also commended the Nigerian contingent for their “good sportsmanship, discipline, and sacrifice” at the Olympics, thanking them for their service to the country and wishing them well.
Team Nigeria, despite historic performance in basketball, returned from the Olympics without any medals.
