Central Bank of Libya has suspended all its operations after its information technology director, Musab Msallem was kidnapped in Tripoli, the country’s capital.

Gatekeepers News reports that the bank announced the abduction of its senior staff through a statement released on Sunday.

Central Bank of Libya noted that it will not resume operations until Msallem is released.

According to local media, cited by AFP; the official was kidnapped to force the resignation of the bank’s Governor Seddik al-Kabir.

It comes a week after the central bank suffered a siege by armed men.

The central bank of Libya is independent but owned by the state government. It is the only internationally recognised depository for Libyan oil revenues.
