ECOWAS Denies Predicting Violence In Ghana’s Elections

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has denied claims that its recent Pre-Election Fact-Finding Mission to Ghana predicted violence in the upcoming elections.

Gatekeepers News reports that the commission described a media report suggesting this as “dishonest” and emphasized that the mission’s findings are confidential.

“The commission categorically denounces the tabloid’s dishonest reportage. ECOWAS pre-electoral missions do not issue statements on their findings. Reports of such missions are confidential and meant only for the eyes of the President of the Commission,” the ECOWAS commission stated.

The commission stressed that no statement had been made forecasting violence in the December 2024 elections, describing the tabloid’s assertions as “preposterous.”

ECOWAS expressed concern over attempts to distort the mission’s purpose and misrepresent its findings.

The commission reaffirmed its trust in Ghana’s democratic institutions and pledged continued support to ensure transparent, inclusive, and peaceful elections.

“The ECOWAS commission rightly holds Ghana in high esteem as a model of maturing democracy and tolerance on the continent,” it added.
