Police have launched a search and rescue operation for the abducted 20 medical students from universities of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) and Jos (UNIJOS).
Gatekeepers News reports that the students were kidnapped along Otukpo-Otukpa-Enugu Expressway on their way to Enugu State for Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students’ convention last week Thursday.
Spokesman of Benue State command, Catherine Sewuese Anene confirmed this in Makurdi yesterday.
She said, “A rescue operation is ongoing and that’s the best you can get from us for now.”
Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun deployed a tactical team from his office to the state to rescue the students.
According to reports; the tactical team, arrived in the state on Monday and is working with intelligence team on the ground combing Otukpo forest to rescue the students from their abductors.
The abductors had demanded N50 million ransom as a condition for the release of the students barely two days after the incident.
The abducted students have pleaded with the government and their families to ensure their immediate release.
