President Bola Tinubu will lead a delegation to the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Summit in Beijing from September 4-6, 2024, where he will hold bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Gatekeepers News reports that Tinubu, as the chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of State and Government, will represent the West African bloc at the summit.
According to presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu’s visit aims to address regional peace and security concerns, as well as yield significant economic benefits for Nigeria.
The meeting comes amid a dispute between the Nigerian government and Chinese firm Zhongshan Fucheng Industrial Investment Co. Limited, which has seized Nigerian assets abroad.
A recent French court ruling allowed the Chinese firm to seize three presidential jets in France as “security” for claims in a decades-long judicial matter.
Former Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Usman Sarki has urged Tinubu to meet with his Chinese counterpart to resolve the conflict through diplomatic means.
