D’Tigress Become First African Team To Break Into FIBA Top 10
Nigerian women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, has become the first African team to break into the top 10 of the FIBA world rankings.

Gatekeepers News reports that D’Tigres, according to the latest rankings released by FIBA on Thursday, has risen an impressive four spots to occupy the eighth position globally.

This historic feat comes on the heels of their remarkable performance at the Paris Olympics, where they showcased their skills and determination on the world stage.

The team’s impressive run at the Olympics, which included a thrilling victory over Australia and a hard-fought win against Canada, marked a turning point in their journey to the top 10.

Although they ultimately succumbed to the United States in the quarter-finals, their performance earned them valuable points and recognition from FIBA.

D’Tigress’ head coach, Rena Wakama, was also recognised for her exceptional leadership, being named the best coach of the women’s basketball event at the Olympics.

The new FIBA rankings see the US, the Olympic champions, retain their top spot, followed closely by Australia and France.

China and Spain round out the top five, with D’Tigress proudly representing Africa in the eighth position.
