Governor of Sokoto state, Ahmed Aliyu has cleared the air about the controversy surrounding the 28 solar-powered boreholes in Wurno Local Government Area (LGA).
Gatekeepers News reports that the Governor made the clarification while speaking in Goronyo during flag-off of APC campaign rally for the Sokoto East Senatorial Zone ahead of the forthcoming local government elections.
Governor Aliyu revealed that the contract for the drilling of 28 new boreholes in five locations in Wurno Local Government was not awarded by Sokoto State Government.
He said, “This project was not awarded by the Sokoto State Government, it is a project jointly funded by the World Bank, state government, and ACREsAL project, with the aim of making water accessible to Munki, Lugu, Wurno, Dinawa and Marnona areas.”
” We never participated in the process of awarding the contact for the drilling of new boreholes.”
“The issue of renovation of boreholes in Wurno does not even arise because you can’t repair what does not exist.”
“There were no boreholes drilled in those places before our coming to power, that is why we insisted on drilling new boreholes to those communities.”
The Governor added that his administration in the state has executed various projects across the state without borrowing a dime from anybody.
He said, “So also no contractor in the state is being owed by the state government, because we make sure that contractors are never short of funds so that they can give us quality projects and within stipulated period.”
Governor Aliyu vowed to continue to execute people-oriented projects for the development of the state.
He solicited the support and cooperation from well-meaning citizens so that the entire state could benefit from the state government’s developmental projects.
