Zulum Relocates Residents To Safe Ground As Massive Flooding Hits Maiduguri

Thousands of residents are being relocated to safe ground by the Borno State Governor,  Prof . Babagana Zulum after massive flooding hit Maiduguri,  the state capital on Tuesday.

Gatekeepers News reports that the flood occurred following the overflowing of the Alau Dam, leaving many houses, schools and major markets submerged. Click here to see video

Similar flooding ravaged the ancient city of Maiduguri 30 years ago leaving many residents displaced after the overflowing of Alau Dam.

Prof Zulum took time to visit flooded areas including the Shehu of Borno Palace where he assured the royal father, His Eminence,  Alh Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai al-Amin El-kenemi that measures are being taken to address the situation.

The Borno State Governor,  through the  Borno State Emergency Flood  Response Committee, led by the Secretary to State Government,  Alhaji Bukar Tijjani currently accommodating flood-displaced persons in five camps.

The camps where the residents are being relocated include Bakasi Camp, Dalori Camp, Ashiek Zarma Camp, Galtimari Camp and Ali Sheriff Primary School Camp.

Meanwhile,  major streets, including the popular Lagos Street,  Monday Market, Shehu’s Palace, Borno State House of Assembly,  and Kofa Biyu amongst other places are currently flooded.
