Governor of Benue, Hyacinth Alia, has sworn in Deborah Aber as first female secretary to the state government (SSG).
Gatekeepers News reports that swearing-in took place at the government house in Makurdi, capital of Benue on Thursday.
Press secretary of the Governor, Tersoo Kula revealed this through a statement released.
The new appointee replaces Joseph Alakali, who tendered his resignation on Monday due to “personal challenges”.
The Governor noted that Aber’s appointment is a testament to the confidence he has in the ability of women of Benue.
The Governor said, “As the first woman ever to be appointed as Secretary to the State Government in Benue State, Barr. Aber Serumun Deborah’s appointment is a testament to the confidence I and indeed this administration have in the abilities of the women of Benue.”
“We recognise the important roles women play in our society and this appointment reflects our determination to elevate merit and diversity in leadership.”
Alia said he is confident that the new SSG would ensure the effective coordination of government activities and drive policies that would lead to the sustainable development of the state.
The governor urged the civil servants in Benue to give Aber and his administration the needed support to succeed.
He said, “The work of building the state involves collective efforts.”
On her part, Aber thanked the Governor for the opportunity to serve the state as the first female SSG and promised to do her best for a prosperous Benue.
