TCA Gallery Announces Art Exhibition To Raise Funds For Children Battling Cancer

The Children’s Art (TCA) Gallery in collaboration with The Children Living With Cancer Foundation has announced its upcoming exhibition, ‘‘HOPE BLOOMS: THE ART OF BRAVERY AND JOY’’.

Gatekeepers News reports that the exhibition which showcases an inspiring collection of art created by children living with cancer is part of the Gallery’s Art Wellness Initiative– utilising the healing power of art to empower children within hospital and healthcare settings.

TCA Gallary’s founder, Segun Oni in a statement released on Wednesday, announced that the exhibition will open to the public from Friday, 27 September, to 6 October 2024.

He said, “We are thrilled to present this exhibition in partnership with CLWCF for the second year in a row. Our team hopes to build on last year’s success when we raised Two Million Naira for the foundation. I am delighted that TCA Gallery is able to provide an innovative and inclusive platform to draw attention to the journey of families and children battling cancer, through their art.”

“We are grateful to our collector base and partners who continue to make an impact on children’s welfare through our exhibitions and the Art Wellness Initiative.”

‘HOPE BLOOMS’ offers a unique glimpse into the creativity, innocence, and boundless imagination of childhood. The exhibition features paintings, drawings, and prints all created by children living with cancer at the paediatric oncology ward at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).

The artworks explore themes of nature, friendship, hope, survival, and dreams, which showcase the unique perspectives of these young children. The featured pieces were created during monthly workshops, where children receiving treatment, encouraged by their family members, and other cancer survivors engage in arts and crafts to connect and experience the healing and therapeutic effects of art during their stay at the hospital.

Founder of CLWCF, Nneka Nwobi said, “Whether through the beauty of art or the power of compassion, your support helps children battling cancer find strength, hope, and healing. Every contribution, large or small, fuels their fight and brings them closer to a future full of possibilities. Together, we can turn hope into reality for these brave young souls.”

Funds raised from artwork sales and donations during the exhibition will be donated to the Children Living with Cancer Foundation. The foundation uses these funds for therapeutic art workshops, family support, and childhood cancer research.

Josephine Iyabo Iwatan-Israel said, “I strongly believe we are creating memories for the children, while also creating awareness for their cause. We are giving them reasons to fight so that cancer doesn’t win. Being the curator of the art exhibition and the art workshops since 2016, it’s been a life-changing experience for me.”

“I’ve been able to see how resilient the children are, when they show their passion for art. I’m glad to be a part of this journey– from organising the workshops all the way to the exhibition, it is an immense privilege and honour. My heart goes out to the families affected by childhood cancer; we are always rooting for them.”

According to the statement; the exhibition will take place between September 27, 2024 – October 6, 2024. Gallery Hours will be Tuesdays – Sundays, and intended attendees are advised to go through booking link for available times.

The event will be held on Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria. Detailed directions will be provided upon booking
