Nigeria’s federal government has unveiled a cutting-edge Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) technology worth $56 million to boost the national power grid’s performance.
Gatekeepers News reports that this innovative system, funded by the World Bank, aims to reduce frequent power grid collapses and enhance supply reliability.
According to Adebayo Adelabu, Minister of Power, “The SCADA system will enable us to monitor the entire electricity network from a centralised location, ensuring prompt responses to outages, efficient load management, and optimied system performance.”
This technology allows for real-time monitoring, automated data collection, fault detection, and remote-controlled operations.
The project, which includes the installation of 2,723 kilometers of optical ground wire along transmission routes, is currently 69% completed and expected to be fully operational by mid-next year.
